Costumer Critiques
I bought this toy for my son and myself, and I ought to say I have been well pleased with its construction, durability and functionality. The toy has taken a quantity of challenging crashes into buildings, concrete, and trees -- so its tuff, damn tuff, but how well does it fly? Firstly, its a lot more a powerful bird as compared to any of the compact battery powered helicopters I have previously purchased or observed. It flies high, 100 feet and it demands a lot of space to honestly get pleasure from flying it. You can fly it in the backyard, but I come across I invest a lot more time worrying about crashing it into the house than genuinely having fun.
The gyro's keep the copter level and offer pinpoint turning -- Which means that It spins around although hovering in mid-air. The flight challenge is to keep the copter's hight steady, when moving the copter forward. Once again, turning is not an problem, its balancing the hight and forward path that is complicated. A single reviewer talked about that it will not fly forward or backward nonetheless this is not the case. Immediately after a handful of days of practice both my 9 year old and I could pilot the copter reasonably well. I got about 15 minutes of flying time for just about every hour of charging. With the high mastering curve this can make for some frustration. Is it worth obtaining? Yeah, its enjoyable, and my son and I got a significant kick out of it -- in particular at night as it lights up! But, personally I wondered if it might not be worth it to invest a little a lot more capital and buy a larger copter that is easer to fly.
Bottom Line: This copter is enjoyable, sturdy, will and may well satisfy your requirements -- if you put some time in understanding to fly it.
First R/C helicopter I've ever owned -- not new to the R/C scene, although (and I have a superior understanding of how real helicopters fly and operate). It took me a little getting utilised to (hence the "difficult for beginners" comment), but very easy to master (hence the "simple and easy for intermediates" comment).
A lot of the other reviews have covered most of the concerns -- right here are my further thoughts:
- Flies pretty nicely appropriate out of the box -- continuously requirements to be trimmed on the rotational axis and, as a person else noted, sustaining height/hover control is a bit challenging.
- The Swift/Slow toggle switch is good for controlling your speed indoors (use the Slow setting). I've however to fly this outdoors (darned winter...mid-December 2010 as I write this), so haven't truly tried the Rapid setting. It does appear to fly noticeably quicker in the Quick setting.
- Only true unfavorable that I've encountered so far (prevented this from getting a full five-star rating in my book) is that the good quality manage is a touch lacking -- one particular of the wires soldered onto the On/Off switch came loose on the 2nd flight, requiring me to have to re-solder the wire (and asking for my wife's aid, as it was certainly a 3-hand operation).
And it looks like I got a deal, the price tag appears to have gone up by about $20 because I bought it!
